The man who killed Kate Steinle and prompted the contentious “Kate's Law” regarding illegal migrants who have already been deported has been found innocent of first and second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and assault with a semi-automatic weapon. In fact, all Jose Ines Garcia Zarate has been found guilty of is possession of a weapon as a felon.
This massive travesty of justice is unfortunately not surprising. It was almost guaranteed that there would be a political angle to the verdict.
Zarate was on San Francisco's Pier 14 with a gun in his hand that went off. The gun was clearly being waved around otherwise the bullet would have hit the floor. So why is he not in some way guilty of at least manslaughter?
The defense attornies argued that the gun fired by accident and Kate was actually hit by a ricochet. And even if this were true, he should still be guilty of waiving a loaded weapon around in a public place!
Defense attorney Francisco Ugarte said:
“From Day 1 this case was used as a means to foment hate, to foment division and to foment a program of mass deportation. It was used to catapult a presidency along that philosophy of hate of others. I believe today is a day of vindication for the rest of immigrants.”
How is this a vindication? It is a travesty! How is it possible that this guy is only being found guilty of possessing a gun and not reckless endangerment? Politics!
The left wants to rub the right's nose in the fact that despite pushing forward with Kate's Law, they can still manipulate things in their own cities.
This is a disgusting verdict.
