Yesterday, the Senate voted to restart the government after a 3-day shutdown. And what did Senate Minority leader get in return for whipping his party into line? Nothing!
Since this began, the complicit media have been portraying the Republicans, and Trump in particular, as hopeless deal-makers who were basically being lead by the nose by superior Democrats. But how that narrative has failed.
Mitch McConnell's only concession is that he would consider putting DACA n the floor in the next 17 days. No written agreements, no promises. Just that he “intends” to do something about it.
There are three clear winners in this situation. McConnell, Trump, and the American people who are sick of having an agenda they did not vote for forced down their throats.
But what will happen when this temporary budget comes due in 17 days? Will the Republicans roll over and say “Let's do DACA?” Or will they play hardball? The Democrats have already shown that they fear public opinion more than anything else (as soon as the public view turned o #Schumer shutdown, the Dems were looking for a way out); if the Trump administration can keep up with the demands for an end to chain migration, an end to the Visa Diversity lottery, and funding for a wall, what choice will the opposition be left with?
