After the huge attacks on US sovereignty by the United Nations and their condemnation of President Trump's decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem, the administration has decided to hit back where it hurts…Their funding!
The US accounts for about 22% of all funding for the UN, and Trump has just taken some of that back. It has been announced that they will cut $285 million from the budget. This ties in with President Trump's campaign promise to bring the UN to heel.
And this is clearly the right move!
The US is a member of the UN because it benefits everyone. But if all of their chatter goes against US interests at home and abroad, why should we keep on paying? It's ridiculous.
Hopefully, this massive cut to their budget will give them notice that the time has come to stop working against US interests to further an agenda that we don't agree with.
It is not the US's job to fund every other nation on earth in projects that act directly against our foreign policy. Why pay?
Ambassador Nikki Haley announced:
“The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known,” Haley said. “We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked. This historic reduction in spending – in addition to many other moves toward a more efficient and accountable UN – is a big step in the right direction.”
