Trump's declaration today is to bans Welfare for Immigrants for 5 Years: ‘You Can't Just Come In…And Start Picking Up Welfare'. President Donald Trump's weekly address to the American public gave us more insight into the government's plans to take care of welfare benefits for immigrants.
“As an example, you cannot get welfare for five years when you come into our country. You cannot just come in like in past weeks, years, and decades, you come in immediately and start picking up welfare. For five years, you have to say you will not be asking or using our welfare systems.”
The president's immigration plan, known as the RAISE Act, emphasizes a few key points:
It would cut the number of low-skilled immigrants given ‘green cards' in half.
It would implement a merit-based scoring system that values education and job skills.
It would require all immigrants to learn and speak English.
While the press speaks as always attacks the proposal to set a five-year ban on welfare, it wouldn't be unique to the Trump administration.
A similar five-year welfare ban has been in place since 1996. In June 2017 a Rasmussen poll revealed that 62 percent of all voters polled support the five-year welfare ban for immigrants, while 26 percent oppose it.
