Donald Trump has decided to end the fraud and abuse that we know takes place in the SNAP and food stamp programs across the United States. We all know local stores that will take EBT cards and pay out cash on spending or sell alcohol at marked up prices to customers who want to use their cards.
The Trump administration is proposing sending out food packages that contain things like cereals, tinned fruit, pasta etc…
According to NPR:
“The USDA believes that state governments will be able to deliver this food at much less cost than SNAP recipients currently pay for food at retail stores — thus reducing the overall cost of the SNAP program by $129 billion over the next 10 years.”
But critics of the plan have voiced concerns. They say that the people who receive SNAP know better what their families need…If this were true, then there would not be a major obesity problem among poorer citizens and candy being bought with welfare assistance.
Critics also say that welfare recipients might not know how to prepare the food. Are they suggesting that newly arrived folk in the country can't figure out how to cook pasta? This, of course, raises another question of why we are having immigration from people who can't figure out what is essentially a food that (in one form or another) is available all over the world…What benefit would such a person bring to the US? Or are the critics saying that these folk are too stupid? I'd love to know their reasoning behind such hateful slurs.
